I launched my very own vegan cheese line called: GOPAL CHEESE at the 1st of December 2015. The cows are my pals, I grew up in a country full of cows (Holland) and cows were an essential part of my up bringing, of my child hood and my memories of my home country. I love them so very much. So it’s for them, all of this.
The dirty on dairy is huge, it’s just such a horrific industry, for a long time while being vegetarian I knew very little about this, but then when I did and hands on witnessed cows being abused in a way no being should ever be abused I knew it, I would forever become a cow protector, a saviour and hold them close to my heart, that’s my story.
I also love getting creative, trying new things, experimenting with different flavours, methods, techniques. That’s also how GOPAL CHEESE came about. After a very successful “How to make vegan cheese” workshop in September at the Food Temple in Lisbon (my first vegan cheese workshop was in Sydney in January 2012), I thought I need to do something with this, people responded so well to the cheeses and everyone was like, when can we buy them? So Gopal Cheese was launched at the beginning of December 2015 and it was a success! A huge success to be exact, now in 2019 with a home at both FOODPRINTZ CAFÉ and O BOTANISTA the cheese business is really taking off here in Lisbon, with a huge following of very happy, regular and enthusiastic customers who always return for more.
